About Me

WHO AM I

Meet Dr. Emily Andresen

Education and Training

I graduated from Stanford University in 1998 with a degree in Psychology and went on to earn both my master’s and doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the PGSP-Stanford Psy.D. Consortium in 2008. I’ve been licensed as a clinical psychologist in the state of Washington since 2011 (License #PY 60194237).

In my practice, I draw on evidence-based practices (EBPs)—therapeutic approaches grounded in the latest scientific research. While using these techniques, I also pay close attention to how early relationships and past experiences may be shaping your current challenges. I tailor each therapy experience to meet the individual needs, goals, and personality of every client I work with.

I have received extensive training in the following modalities:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Short-Term Psychodynamic Therapy

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

  • Narrative Therapy

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I)

About Me

I live in Seattle with my husband, my two boys and our dogs. Outside of my work, I enjoy movies, music, kitesurfing, being outdoors and traveling.

Clinical Experience and Teaching

I bring a broad range of clinical experience to my work with adults. I’ve worked in the Behavioral Medicine and Depression Research Clinics at the Stanford University School of Medicine, the National Center for PTSD at the Menlo Park VA, and the Depression Center at the University of Colorado Denver. I’ve also served clients in community mental health settings, and have worked extensively with high school and college students through campus counseling centers and a Job Corps counseling center.

Alongside my clinical work, I spent over 15 years teaching psychology in both secondary and higher education. I’m also deeply committed to women’s mental health and well-being and for five years co-directed an overnight women’s retreat focused on mental health, relationships, and empowerment.
