Welcome

Welcome! My name is Dr. Emily Andresen (she/her). I am a Stanford-trained psychologist who works collaboratively with individuals and couples who are navigating relationship challenges, stress, anxiety or difficult life circumstances.

 Areas of Expertise

  • Midlife can be a time of profound transition. You may find yourself questioning your purpose, facing changes in relationships, coping with aging parents, launching children into adulthood, or reassessing long-held beliefs about success and happiness. These years can bring both challenge and opportunity.

    Therapy for Midlife Transitions
As a psychologist with experience supporting individuals through this stage of life, I offer a space for reflection, healing, and growth. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, or simply ready to make meaningful changes, therapy can help you reconnect with your values and navigate the path forward with clarity and confidence.

Common Concerns I Work With Include:

    • Identity shifts and life direction

    • Burnout and career dissatisfaction

    • Relationship changes (including divorce, empty nesting, or caregiving roles)

    • Grief and loss

    • Emotional challenges related to aging and health

    • Reconnecting with meaning and purpose

    You're Not Alone
Midlife is not a crisis—it’s a turning point. With the right support, it can be a powerful time of renewal.

If you're ready to take the next step, I’m here to help.

  • Supporting Women Through Life’s Challenges – Therapy That Meet

If you’re here, you might be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply ready for change. As a licensed psychologist specializing in therapy for women, I offer a space where you can be heard, supported, and empowered to move forward.

Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, relationship issues, parenting stress, career transitions, or a deeper sense of “something’s not right,” you don’t have to face it alone. I’m here to help you reconnect with your strength, your voice, and your sense of self.

Therapy for Women – Why It Matters

Women today juggle countless roles—partner, parent, caregiver, professional, friend—often putting their own needs last. Therapy offers a space to pause and focus on you. Together, we’ll explore what’s working in your life and what isn’t. We’ll untangle patterns that are no longer serving you and identify healthier ways of coping, relating, and living.

I work with women across all life stages, from young adulthood to midlife and beyond. You might be:

    • Struggling with perfectionism, burnout, or self-doubt

    • Facing relationship conflict, divorce, or loneliness

    • Dealing with anxiety, panic, or chronic stress

    • Recovering from trauma or difficult family dynamics

    • Seeking support for reproductive challenges or perimenopausal transitions

    • Wanting to redefine your identity or life direction

No matter where you’re starting from, our work together will be rooted in compassion, collaboration, and a belief in your capacity for growth.

    My Approach

I draw from evidence-based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based interventions, and relational therapy. These methods help us understand how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors interact—and how we can shift them in a direction that feels healthier and more authentic.

But therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all. Every woman is different, and our work together will be tailored to your specific needs, values, and goals. Some women come to therapy looking for practical tools and strategies. Others want a space to go deeper, reflect on their past, and process what’s been hard to carry. Most seek a little of both.

What matters most is that you feel safe, seen, and supported.

    A Feminist and Inclusive Lens

My practice is grounded in a feminist framework, which means I view mental health within the context of broader social and cultural forces. Women’s experiences don’t happen in a vacuum. Societal expectations, gender roles, racism, ableism, and other systemic pressures often shape how we feel about ourselves and our place in the world.

This awareness helps guide therapy in a way that validates your lived experience while empowering you to create change—both internally and externally.

I welcome women of all backgrounds, identities, and life paths, including LGBTQ+ clients, women of color, neurodivergent women, and those navigating chronic health conditions. You deserve a therapist who honors your full identity.

  • Couples Therapy
Every relationship has its challenges. Whether you’re feeling distant from your partner, caught in repeating conflicts, or struggling to rebuild trust, therapy can offer a path toward deeper connection and understanding.

Support for Couples at Every Stage
I work with couples navigating a range of issues—from communication difficulties and life transitions to infidelity, parenting stress, blended families or emotional disconnection. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from couples therapy. Sometimes, it's about strengthening what’s already working and building skills to handle what’s not.

    What You Can Expect:

    • A safe, nonjudgmental space for both partners

    • Tools to communicate more effectively

    • Support in healing past hurts

    • Guidance in rebuilding intimacy and trust

    • Clarity around shared goals and values

A More Connected Partnership is Possible
It takes courage to seek help as a couple, and doing so is a powerful step toward growth. Whether you’re hoping to repair, deepen, or reimagine your relationship, I’m here to help guide the process.

  • At the heart of our emotional wellbeing lies connection—the way we relate to ourselves and to others. When those patterns feel painful, confusing, or stuck, it often traces back to early attachment experiences that shaped how we give and receive love, trust, and security.

Helping You Understand and Heal Your Relationship Patterns
I work with individuals and couples who are ready to explore how attachment dynamics impact their relationships—past and present. Whether you're navigating anxiety in relationships, struggling with intimacy, or finding yourself in familiar patterns that don’t serve you, therapy can help you develop new ways of connecting.

    Common Concerns Include:

    • Fear of abandonment or rejection

    • Difficulty trusting or opening up

    • Repeating unhealthy relationship cycles

    • Conflict avoidance or emotional shutdown

    • Feeling "too much" or "not enough" in relationships

    • Longing for closeness but fearing vulnerability

    Rewriting the Story
Attachment wounds can be deep, but they are not fixed. In therapy, we can work together to uncover the roots of these patterns, build self-awareness, and foster more secure, compassionate relationships—with others and with yourself.

  • Perfectionism, self-doubt, and an internal pressure to always “do more” can quietly take a toll on your mental health and relationships. Therapy can help you untangle these patterns, find relief from the constant striving, and reconnect with a sense of purpose and ease.

    I help high-performing individuals:

    • Manage anxiety, burnout, and chronic stress

    • Break free from all-or-nothing thinking

    • Build healthier boundaries and self-compassion

    • Address imposter syndrome and fear of failure

    • Heal underlying issues driving perfectionism

    • Redefine success on their own terms

You Don’t Have to Give up Your Drive
You can still aim high—without sacrificing your peace of mind. Therapy offers a space to slow down, reflect, and build a more sustainable and fulfilling way of being.
